Emmerdale Special

Watch it! Emmerdale, Mon - Fri, TV3 & UTV

Last January when self-made millionaire Mark Wylde arrived in the Dales, he had everything: a beautiful wife, three loving children and the keys to the village palace, Home Farm. They became an instant hit with the rest of the villagers when his wife Natasha revealed that they had bought the local church and saved it from demolition. By all accounts, they seemed like the perfect family.

But Mark's idyllic life soon began to show cracks when a mysterious redhead showed up in the village. Faye was once married to Mark, when his name was Daniel Lamb, but he went missing 27 years ago when his company was in serious debt. Abandoning Faye and their unborn child, she actually thought he was dead. However, with Faye back in his life, their love is rekindled and they embark on a passionate affair.

Fast forward to January 2010 and Mark Wylde is now dead, secretly murdered by his wife Natasha after he caused utter devastation to both his families. He has another son, Ryan, who before he knew Mark was his dad, started a romantic relationship with his half-sister Maisie. Now that all the sordid and bigamist details of his past and present are out in the open, Natasha and Faye are left to deal with the consequences.

This week when a body is found, Natasha and Faye are brought together to make an identification. It turns out not to be Mark, but the women find a sort of solace and strength in their united grief.

The new wife

Amanda Donohoe plays Natasha Wylde

How did Natasha feel after killing Mark?

She is absolutely horrified by what she's done. She goes into shock.

What is Natasha's biggest fear?

Discovery, of course. She fears that her children will one day find out what happened. I don't think she is going to let that happen but we'll see how it transpires.

Does Natasha help Maisie cope with what's happening?

Natasha is shocked to realise Maisie is in love with Ryan and she tries to comfort her but Maisie is distraught. She isn't coping at all. She descends into an alcoholic haze, trying to suppress those forbidden feelings she has for her half-brother.

Does Natasha think she can get away with Mark's murder?

She hopes she can. Personally, I don't see how you would live with that; how would you deal with taking someone else's life? Denial and survival play massive parts as the storyline unfolds. Natasha is terrified of losing everything she has worked so hard for, especially her children.

How does she feel when the police come knocking at the door?

I think it's come to the point where she has to master her emotions. She is a strong enough character to do it, however in the same breath, it turns her into a liar, which is something she despises.

Do the police have any reason to suspect her?

Forgetting to get rid of Mark's passport is a big mistake, but it's certainly something she can explain. Mark has a history of disappearing so why would he need his passport when he'll probably have to change his identity - and it's not even his real identity! So actually, yes, at first she panics, but then she thinks about it and why would a lying bigamist want his passport?

What do you think could cause Natasha to be found out?

If she is stupid enough to tell someone about it, that will be her downfall!

The old wife

Kim Thomson plays Faye Lamb

How is Faye coping since Mark's disappearance?

She's sort of coping because she feels she has to for Ryan, otherwise she would have gone to pieces, but when you have a child you have to keep yourself to together, and even though he's a grown-up child he's obviously having a terrible time.

Does she still love Mark?

I think there are moments where the love she felt a week ago can't just disappear and then she remembers what he's put everyone through and she feels hatred towards him.

How does she feel when Natasha tells her to keep Ryan away from Maisie?

Faye cares about Maisie but she resents Natasha coming round telling her what to do with her child - why should Ryan do what she says? It's not for the parents to decide; they are in their 20s and will find their own way through. She resents Natasha's high-handed manner, trying to dictate everyone.

Why is Faye so focused on finding Mark?

She is very focused on trying to find out where he is, not because she wants him back, as they've decided not to be together anyway, but because she's determined not to go through it all again. She needs closure for herself; history can't be allowed to repeat itself.

Why does Faye go to the morgue?

It's a moment when Faye tries to be supportive of Natasha, she sort of says, 'I've done this before and you can do it, we'll get through this together'. I think Natasha's a bit resistant to it but appreciates it. At least there's somebody standing behind her.

How does Ryan feel towards Faye?

Understandably he feels devastated and of course angry with her. She believes they'll work their way through it but these things can't be done overnight.

Do you think Ryan should forgive Faye?

I think Ryan should forgive Faye in the long run but you can't instantly forgive, and he's right to be angry with everyone. Of course because Faye's his mother, she's the one he relied on to always be truthful and protect him, so all he can see is her hiding all these lies from him.
